We did learn a little about two artists whose work we'll be seeing while in Italy. Piero della Francesca and Luca Signorelli. That last name makes me giggle, because it sounds like Cinderelli and I get song from the Walt Disney movie in my head. Both of these guys were making art that would lead into Renaissance artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.
This is a polyptych altar piece by Piero della Francesca. The subject matter isn't my favorite to look at, but I do enjoy seeing the revelation that took place leading medieval art into art that really seems to have three dimensional depth. Also, this is what you painted if you were an artist in the 14th or 15th century.
This is not reminiscent of most Luca Signorelli work that I have seen, but it was the most web appropriate for my audience. Signorelli liked to paint what he thought happened to the people that didn't make it into heaven and it didn't look fun. Well, some if it... Anyway, I really do like this piece so here it is.
We also talked about Italian food and where we might stay. If there was anything else, I zoned out and missed it. If you see me in the next couple of weeks you might nag me about grant writing. I meant to do it over the holiday, but it didn't happen.
